Globalisation

For a start, I will discuss about an issue that all people of the globe can relate to. This issue is not only happening recently but has its roots planted back several hundred years ago when men started to embark on trans-continental travel. On these travels, they brought along with them a wealth of cultures and ideologies that were shared with foreign inhabitants. These inhabitants then spread it on to different communities which undoubtedly will spread it on further. This never-ending cycle is one example of how globalization has an effect on all of us. Unless we live inside a rock, there is no way we can escape globalization.

As John B. Thompson has said, a very basic and general definition of globalization is that it refers to the growing interconnectedness of different parts of the world, and is a process which gives rise to the complex form of the interaction and interdependency. Put simple, globalization is the process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and functioning together. Globalization encompasses many aspects such as economic, technological, socio-cultural and political forces, however, globalization is most commonly used in economics to refer to the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and spread of technology. From this, it is evident that the effects of globalization is far-reaching and even influences the size of our wallets.

As such, how can we still be ignorant about global issues? Or rather, how can we turn globalization into a blessing and not a curse?
